Lansons finalists in national Green awards

Lansons Communications was recently shortlisted as a finalist in the Overall Environmental Category (SME) at the Green Business Awards 2009.

Lansons Communications believes that running a business should have a minimal impact on the environment and a positive impact on the local community. This has been highlighted with the work we have done for charity (donating a slice of profits every year) and in the local community over the past 20 years.

Lansons Green initiative was launched over seven years ago. We started with recycling and this has since gathered pace and now we have a whole programme dedicated towards running a business whilst minimising the impact on the environment.

Lansons Communications has been a Carbon Neutral Company since 2007.

The progress we have made year on year includes reductions in our Waste to Landfill ratio reduced by 42%, our Taxi use reduced by 51% and our Electricity usage down by 8% between 2007 and 2008.

In addition our Bike2Work scheme has proved very popular since its launch in the summer of 2007 and one in ten employees now regularly cycles to work.

Although we didn’t win it was great to be selected as a finalist and has inspired us to push ahead with further projects to make Lansons a more environmentally responsible employer and supplier in 2010.

Targets for 2010

Since our award we have already moved to a new ‘zero to landfill’ waste collection service. The waste that we cannot re-cycle that previously went to landfill now gets collected and used to produce energy at a specialist energy from waste plant.

We will also be looking at our supply chain to ensure we are getting value for money and green credentials; moving to, moving to energy efficient network printers that have a default double sided functionality to reduce our paper usage.

Finally in 2010 our aim is produce a CSR report that details all of the work we do as a business to make a difference to the environment, in our local community, for charity, pro-bono work and the programmes we undertake to make Lansons a fun, exciting and dynamic place to work.
